Sensor

When new technology developed, the one term which always strikes in mind is what sensor does it include to process. Sensors becoming most common but important in today's world covering all physical stimulus like light, heat, sound, pressure etc. Here, we are going to discuss about Infrared sensor - what is it , how does it work and what are the application areas. What is Sensor ? A Sensor is a device / converter that detects input from the physical environment and converts it into a signal which can be read by an observer or by an electronic instrument. A sensor responds to an input quantity by generating a functionally related output usually in the form of an electrical or optical signal. A sensor's sensitivity indicated how much the sensor's output changes when the measured quantity changes.  The specific input could be light, heat, motion, moisture, pressure or other physical stimulus. Examples -  Blood pressure meter - Device used to measure blood p...

Overview - Sensor ? A sensor is a converter that measures a physical quantity and converts it into a signal which can be read by an observer or by an instrument . Processing such a signal reveals some properties about objects located and/or event happening in the vicinity of the sensor. A large number of these disposable sensors can be networked in many applications that require unattended operations. Sensor node ? A sensor node, also known as sensor pod or a mote, is a component of a wireless sensor network. Each node in the network is responsible for collecting data about the environment around it and sending that data to processors in the network. A mote is node but a node is not always a mote. Fig 1: The typical architecture of the sensor node. Components - The main components of a sensor node are a micro-controller , transceiver , external memory , power source and one or more sensors .
